Mar y Sol receives the award for Universal
Accessibility from AENOR
25.01.2012
Hotel Mar y Sol in Los Cristianos is
the first hotel in the Canary Islands to receive
this certificate from the Spanish Association
for Standardisation and Certification (Aenor).
Aenor thereby rubber stamps the fact that
all people, irrespective of age or disability,
have equal opportunity to freely access the
entire hotel complex and, moreover, enjoy
the facilities offered to the full - and this,
even providing the highest degree of independence
and safety for the guests.
The award "Certificate for Universal Accessibility"
was handed over on January 18th 2012 on the occasion of
an official celebration in Madrid, held under the auspices
of the Spanish Tourism Trade Fair, Fitur. The first Vice-President
of the government of Tenerife, Carlos Alonso, along with
the General Director of the Aenor Association, Avelino
Brito and Manuel Romero, Commercial Director for Certification
(Aenor) presented the certificate to Hans-Joachim Fischer
, proprietor of the Mar y Sol Hotel.
Mr. Fischer was personally congratulated by the Mayor
of Arona, José Alberto González, and the
City Councillor for Tourism and Health, Francisco José
Niño. Hotel Mar y Sol has proved itself to be the
pioneer for completely accessible holidays for the community
of Arona.
The Hotel Mar y Sol was opened in 1990 under the direction
of Hans-Joachim Fischer. For a long period of time it
was the first and only totally accessible hotel in Europe.
Since then the Management and Hotel team have consistently
developed and improved the standards in the hotel, making
it a symbol of quality tourism for the disabled and their
families in Europe. Mar y Sol certainly offers the best
prerequisite conditions which guarantee healthy and pleasant
holidays for guests with and without disabilities.
Receiving this award from Aenor confirms the status
of the Mar y Sol as an important landmark for accessible
tourism on the Archipelago. The hotel also convincingly
fulfils the criteria set by Sinpromi's (Island Society
to aid people with disabilities) TAMAC Project: "Development
of accessible holiday locations in Macaronesia".
How about a winter holiday with a real
difference?

1st Mar y Sol International Wheelchair
Rugby Cup 2011
21.12.2011
The 1st Mar y Sol International Wheelchair Rugby
Cup 2011 took place on 2nd and 3rd December 2011 at the
Mar y Sol Spa & Sport Hotel in Tenerife.
The tournament was organised by the Mar y Sol Hotel
together with the agency Frontcourt (Heiko Striehl). Now
that the 530 m² sports hall has been completed, the
fully barrier-free hotel is able to provide the perfect
conditions to hold this type of international sporting
event.
Wheelchair rugby players from Germany, The Netherlands
and Russia, and even from Dagestan, took part, all with
the aim of pitting their sporting abilities against each
other and, of course, to escape from the European winter
to the warm sun of the Canary Islands. Sport, mutual exchanges
with other players and, above all, fun and enjoyment of
a short break are elements that make the Mar y Sol Cup
stand out over other international tournaments.
For the players, the perfect place to hold the event
was important. Here, everything is simply under one roof:
the sports hall, the outdoor pool heated to 32ºC
(with hoists), rooms and restaurant. Long trips by shuttle
bus from different hotels were therefore saved and participants
were able to make the most of the time between training
sessions and matches to sunbathe, swim and relax. Good
food and the odd drink with their sporting colleagues
rounded off the day.
Many new friendships were formed and they agreed to
return for the next Mar y Sol Cup. The 2nd Mar y Sol International
Wheelchair Rugby Cup is planned to be held during the
week of 3rd to 10th December 2012. Registrations are already
being accepted.

Official inauguration of the Sports Hall
of the Mar y Sol Spa & Sport Hotel
25.11.2011
On 27th October 2011, the Sports Hall of the Mar
y Sol Spa & Sport Hotel in Tenerife was inaugurated,
with the presence of Torben Ronje, sponsor of the sprung
oak sports floor, and Mehdi Langanke, head of TUI Vital
from Hannover.
A long-awaited dream has finally come true. The 530
m2 fully wheelchair-accessible sports hall at the Mary
y Sol Hotel has been open since the summer of this year
and has already been used to host different sporting events
on several occasions. From now on, it will enhance the
hotel's range of facilities to include a variety of new
possibility for sports, games and leisure activities.
Torben Ronje has also supported other projects of the
hotel over recent years, contributing towards developing
the hotel's standards. The Mar y Sol Spa & Sport Hotel
is one of the favourite tourist destinations of the operator
TUI Vital and Mr. Langanke is delighted that the continual
improvement to criteria for quality tourism is at the
forefront at Mar y Sol.
